iSync and the K10i

It was annoying that iSync was not working with my K810i phone, but after search for some info and a pause to think about whther there could be any problems, I followed the directions on ni.cho.las to successfully set up synchronisation of the address book and contact list.

I made the changes manually - it was quick and easy.

Away from my desk, the laptop (now a venerable age in technology years) is too hot to use without an intervening cushion. Reassuringly, the Temperature Monitor shows that it is not yet time to call the fire brigade.
Showing YouTube Video

Suddenly, I couldn't view YouTube videos! I wondered if the upgrade of either QuickTime or Firefox was the problem, mooched around some forums and eventually decided to upgrade the flash reader from http://www.adobe.com

Add Zero

Today's adventure with BTYahoo started when my access to the internet disappeared without warning. The internet light on the BT Home Hub was off so I started checking. The wireless signal was good, so I checked the cables. I turned the hub off - I tuned everything off - but no joy on start up. I made coffee, tidied my desk, looked outside to see if there were signs of telephone engineers at work. Nothing.

Eventually I phoned for technical support - oh, how I hate paying for a call to support when clearly it is not my fault that something has happened. It was better than last time, but the support guy still worked his way through the script, so we did all the things that I'd done before. Eventually we got to a more promising part - looking at the settings. As expected, there was a default user name and no password, but I was asked to change the password to 0 (zero). I don't know what, if anything, might have been done at the other end, but the internet light came on and service was back to normal.

It may be a Mac thing, though I was surprised that what had worked in the morning had needed fixing in the afternoon, when I had not even done a software upgrade. Maybe I'll have a look online for the experience of other Mac users.

I wonder what the call to technical support will cost? I wonder if BTYahoo would consider a refund (plus something for the inconvenience) as it was definitely not my fault. Last week the DNS server was down for a while and this week it was the settings, so most of all I wonder what will happen next.

Fantastic images, though I'm not sure what they are for. There is an OS-tan quiz which is quite amusing.

You are Apple OS X. You are beautiful, stable, and a catgirl. It’s no wonder people love you. It's sometimes a little annoying that so many people stick with the obviously inferior Windows, but since you know you’re better, you don't let it bother you much.

A lovely set of software collected for the Mac classroom, and many have Windows versions available. Simon Elliott has put a wonderful page together which I'll be investigating at leisure.

Notes for editing a vob file

DVD - use chapters to locate approximate section

Bookmark beginning and end of relevant clip to get the timings - though these were't much use for making a small extract in the end.

Copy TS-Video folder from DVD to desktop

ffmpegX support

Trim further in QuickTime. Pass through settings were good, but when I used the Share option I neded up with a smaller file, but with a different file extension.

The fun bit was editing the video, along with a segment published earlier, to create a new video blog entry at eyespot.
